Creating a five-star hotel bed? This is the product you can't afford to miss

Unfortunately we don't all sleep in a five-star hotel bed every day, but oh, the times that you do, you invariably think: how do I recreate this in my own bedroom? We'll let you in on the chef's secret. It's… the featherbed.

The funny thing is: although featherbeds are one of the best-kept secrets of five-star hotels, they have actually been around for centuries. In the past they were a luxury item reserved for the rich. You know the type: the Downton Abbey fans among us. These families kept and cherished their secret for years, but that has (fortunately) changed by now.

The featherbed is a kind of extra mattress that you lay on top of your bed and that gives you exactly that luxurious ‘I never want to get out of this bed again because cocoon’ feeling.

3 types of featherbed

Already got a featherbed in your basket? Just a moment. Before you make the best purchase of your life, there is something you should know about its care. It really is not much work, but as promised, we would tell you everything. Care differs per model. Our featherbeds at a glance: 1. The Comfort Featherbed: shake it up often

The Comfort Featherbed by DOUXE, also known as the hotel model, needs to be shaken up regularly to stay in good condition and keep the feathers in place. Think of hotels, where beds are made and, above all, shaken up every day for good reason.

2. Original Featherbed: shaking it up once a week is enough. Don't fancy rolling up your sleeves every day? Then choose the Original Featherbed. This model has a filling of 70% feathers and 30% down, and is more practical for home use. Shaking it up once a week is enough to keep its cloud-like fullness.

3. The Prestige Featherbed: also shake it up once a week

Like the Original Featherbed, the Prestige Featherbed is happy to be shaken up once a week. But how do you choose between the Original and the Prestige? Good question. Both give you a heavenly night's sleep. It may help to know that the Prestige is 5 cm thick and the Original 10 cm thick. Perhaps you have a preference.
